Painted Hills

Painted Hills

On the west side of Tucson are the lovely Painted Hills, a 287-acre property of rocky ridges an an estimated 9,000 saguaros. Two designated scenic highways run along either side of the site. Painted Hills has important ecologically sensitive lands including wildlife corridors, mature saguaros, and peaks and ridges of scenic value.

The Coalition for Sonoran Desert Protection and two of our member groups – Tucson Mountains Association and Gates Pass Neighborhood Association – recently approached Pima County officials about moving forward with the purchase of Painted Hills. There needs to be clear and continued community support for this purchase to proceed. Please contact your County supervisor to let them know you support the purchase of this area and ask them to do the same! Don’t forget to spread the word about this unique and treasured space.
