Alongside our partners Friends of Ironwood Forest and several others, we are monitoring news of a reported threat from the Administration against six national monuments — including threats against Ironwood Forest National Monument. There are indications that federal officials are considering resizing national monuments, scaling back land protections, and opening them up for mining.
The Ironwood Forest National Monument is a vital part of Arizona’s ecological and cultural landscape. It supports wildlife, preserves ancient archaeological sites, and provides cherished opportunities for outdoor recreation. Weakening its protections would be a loss for all Arizonans and detrimental to the biodiversity and wildlife corridor currently protected within the preserve.
Since these threats came to light, we have seen an outpouring of support for Ironwood Forest National Monument from our local community and governments, including a rally with 150+ people in attendance, and proclamations from the Pima County Board of Supervisors, the Town of Marana and the City of Tucson.

Your voice matters. Together, we can ensure these special places remain protected for future generations!

Here are some ideas, but it also helps to share your personal story and why the Monument matters to you.
Sample Phone Script:
Hello, my name is [Your Name], and I’m a constituent from [Your City or Zip Code].
I’m calling to ask that Representative [Representative’s Name] speaks up in support of Arizona’s national monuments—especially Ironwood Forest National Monument.
I’m very concerned about reports that the Trump administration may attempt to reduce the size of protected monuments. I believe any effort to shrink these public lands would be harmful to Arizona’s environment, cultural heritage, and local communities, including our economy. This feeling is strongly shared by my community, evident by the recent three proclamations made by local governments and a rally of over 150 people in support of Ironwood Forest National Monument in early June.
These lands are a vital part of our state’s identity and must remain protected for future generations.
Thank you for your time.

Please be ready to act should any direction come from the administration that would decrease the boundaries or weaken protections for our national monuments. Arizona’s national monuments must remain fully protected.
Thank you for your leadership.
