Buffelgrass pull in Ironwood Forest National Monument

March 22

Join the Coalition for Sonoran Desert Protection and the Friends of Ironwood Forest for a hands-on buffelgrass pull at Ironwood Forest National Monument.

This is a fantastic opportunity to experience the beautiful monument and help protect it from a dangerous invasive grass, while working as part of a fun group. Buffelgrass is an incredibly invasive, non-native grass that outcompetes native plants and is a fire hazard for the Sonoran Desert.

WHEN:  Sunday, March 22 from 7:30AM-11AM

We will meet at 7:30AM at the Marana Regional Airport, then carpool to the work site. We will work until around 11AM but may finish earlier depending on the heat. Plan for a 45-minute drive from Central Tucson.

No experience needed and all tools will be provided, as well as lots of snacks to fuel this hard work!

The Ironwood Forest National Monument (IFNM) supports vast biodiversity, preserves ancient archaeological sites, and provides cherished opportunities for outdoor recreation. Alongside our partners Friends of Ironwood Forest and several others, we are monitoring threats from the Administration against six national monuments, including against IFNM – indications that federal officials are considering shrinking boundaries, weakening protections, or opening them to mining.

You won’t want to miss an opportunity to visit the monument for yourself and help play a part in protecting it!

This project is funded in part by Tucson Electric Power (TEP).
