Protecting the desert is powered by you

With so much changing across Southern Arizona, one thing remains clear: the Sonoran Desert needs people like you to stand up for it.

Later this year, we will lead the public campaign to oppose Interstate 11 in Avra Valley — again. This proposed interstate would destroy pristine desert habitat, fragment wildlife corridors, and undermine decades of conservation work.

At the same time, we are sharpening our focus on reconnecting the Tucson-Tortolita Mountains Wildlife Linkage, a priority made more urgent by projects like I-11 and the surrounding Town of Marana’s projected growth. Marana alone is expected to account for roughly a quarter of the region’s population growth over the next decade.

Protecting the Sonoran Desert is a long-term commitment, and it’s powered by you. With your support, we continue to do what we do best: defend the desert from short-sighted development.

Thanks to an incredibly generous group of donors, your donations are now matched up to $31,000 this spring!

Will you help us reach our goal of raising $80,000? Your support today drives positive change for the Sonoran Desert, turning challenges into lasting protection.

This April marks the 10th anniversary of the Oracle Road wildlife crossings, the first voter-approved and funded wildlife crossings in the United States. This year is also the 25th anniversary of the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan, a blueprint for community driven conservation that continues to guide our work.

None of this work happens in isolation. It is the result of this community, including you, showing up for the Sonoran Desert.

With the many challenges we are facing right now, your support is more critical than ever. We are navigating increasing development pressure, renewed threats to Ironwood Forest National Monument, and the return of the I-11 proposal in Avra Valley. Meeting these challenges takes focus, persistence, and the resources to act when it counts.

Because of you, we have a long history of success pushing us forward. Thank you for standing with us this year as we celebrate important milestones and defend the desert from an increasing wave of threats.

For the desert,

Kate Hotten and Kathleen Kennedy
Co-Executive Directors

P.S. Your generous donation will be put right to work. Thank you for helping us reach our $80,000 fundraising goal this spring. We are energized and inspired by your support!
