While growth is a constant challenge, your support makes it possible for us to approach this challenge with both urgency and intention – creating real change that lasts. Since our founding in 1998, we have stood up against short-sighted development — and this mission is as urgent today as when we started.
- A large data center in Pima County was proposed this past summer with little public input. More resource-intensive data center proposals are expected in the year ahead.
- Ironwood Forest National Monument, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is threatened by mining interests that could reduce the monument’s boundaries.
- The West Option of Interstate 11 through Avra Valley is still moving forward.
- Poorly configured housing developments and transmission line projects continue to advance on our region’s most sensitive habitat areas.
Your gift today powers our work against persistent short-sighted development and ensures we can continue to advocate for smarter alternatives.
Our small team is doing our very best but we need more resources to keep up with increasing demands for our expertise and input. With your help, we can succeed in meeting this demand, including expanding our staff and reach.
Will you help us reach our goal of raising $140,000 by the end of the year? By working together, we have the power to shape a healthier, more resilient Sonoran Desert.
We believe it’s possible to protect the Sonoran Desert’s most valuable habitats and benefit from economic development here in Southern Arizona, and hope you do too!
Imagine neighborhoods where wildlife still roams, roads that animals can cross safely, and open spaces and public lands preserved for all to enjoy. By planning thoughtfully, we can work together towards our vision of a Sonoran Desert that is healthy, valued, and protected.
With your support, we can continue to champion policies that make responsible growth possible and ensure your voice is heard.
Growth is a constant challenge, but our collective efforts can help the Sonoran Desert thrive for generations to come.
Your generosity drives this vital local work — thank you.
For the desert,

Kathleen Kennedy and Kate Hotten
Co-Executive Directors
