Cross the CAP canal in Avra Valley

As part of Wild Connections WeekTour the custom-built wildlife corridor that helps animals cross over the CAP (Central Arizona Project) Canal in Avra Valley, one of our priority project areas.

This will include learning about the Tucson Mitigation Corridor, where two desert bighorn sheep have been spotted!, the goals and successes of the Desert Fence Busters, and the threat of the I-11 West Option through Avra Valley. Light refreshments will be provided.

When: Tuesday, April 14, 7:00 AM – 8:30 AM

Where:  Saguaro National Park West — Red Hills Visitor Center. From there, we will carpool and follow each other to an area just west on Sandario Road in the Coyote-Tucson-Ironwood wildlife linkage.

What: Up to one-mile walk on uneven terrain, with stops to learn about and view the custom-built wildlife corridor over the CAP canal. Hear stories about wildlife moving through this area, including their movement through the Tucson Mitigation Corridor (and what the mitigation corridor is!) and what we’ve learned from nearby roadkill surveys on Sandario Road. The walk will also include a visit to our remote wildlife cameras and views of Avra Valley and the proposed location of the I-11 West Option.
