DESCRIPTION:In partnership with Town of Marana Parks & Recreation\, Arizona Master Naturalists\, the Tortolita Alliance\, Arizona Game and Fish Department\, and others\, CSDP  is hosting the first annual BIOBLITZ for Tortolita Preserve. Help us photograph and record as many plant and animal observations in iNaturalist in one day as we can! How many species will we find? This data will help us protect this special place\, currently a preserve under a long-term (but not permanent) lease from State Lands. \nWhat is a BioBlitz?\n \nA BioBlitz an event to inventory as many species as possible in a specific area during a specific time frame. Using apps like iNaturalist and eBird on smartphones\, community scientists and biologists alike can collect high quality data by snapping pictures of wildlife and plants and having those observations verified by others. Data collected during a BioBlitz can be used to gain a stronger understanding of the ecosystem and may inform future research and management decisions. A BioBlitz is also an important opportunity for community members to learn about plants and wildlife\, gain data collection skills\, and build a stronger connection to the landscape. DESCRIPTION:Our Desert Roadies surveys are returning in “BioBlitz” style with a kick-off on Earth Day! \nDesert Roadie volunteers walk or bike an assigned 1-2 mile route and photograph roadkill and wildlife tracks they find using the iNaturalist app. Surveys are repeated for the same route every day for one week\, starting at 6am (sunrise) each morning. Volunteers can adopt a route for multiple days\, or a single day. Orientation required. We’ll be working on removing stretches of fence that are no longer required on City of Tucson Water Department and Pima County Flood Control District property in Avra Valley. \nWHEN: Friday\, October 20 and Saturday\, October 21\, 7:30am-4pm \nWHERE: Three Points/Avra Valley area – more detailed directions will be given after you register \nNOTES: Tools\, snacks\, coffee (for refilling your personal coffee mugs)\, water (for refilling your personal water bottle)\, and lunch will be provided. A port-o-potty will be availability on site.   \nREGISTER TODAY at the Arizona Game and Fish website.  \nHOW TO SIGN UP:  You will need to create an account with the Arizona Game and Fish volunteer portal (if you don’t have one already) and then sign up for this specific event.  \n1. After navigating to the event sign-up page\, click the “Respond” button in the top right corner. \n2. Click “Sign Up” to create an account and follow the required steps.  \n3. SUMMARY:Wildlife Road Watch: Desert Roadies Driving Surveys
DESCRIPTION:We need Desert Roadie volunteers to help complete driving observation surveys on I-10 between Cortaro Farms Rd (Exit 246) and Tangerine Rd (Exit 240)\, both eastbound and westbound\, then making the loop once more on the frontage roads. A total of about 24 miles. The entire survey should take about 30-40 minutes to complete. Surveys start after sunrise each morning to record locations of any wildlife\, alive or dead\, seen on the roadway. \nYou can volunteer to drive a carpool vehicle\, or ride as a passenger to survey for wildlife and record GPS points. Volunteers can also form their own carpool team. We have 8 days of surveys\, so please sign up for one or more and help us fill up our whole survey window! \nThis data will be used as baseline (before construction) information to show how future wildlife crossings and mitigation helps improve safe passage for wildlife in this corridor. We can also use the data to find roadkill hotspots that need to be addressed\, and to justify the need for a wildlife bridge near Avra Valley Rd. \n  \nRSVP online here. \nQuestions?
