Open Space Bond Acquisitions

In May 2004 Pima County voters overwhelmingly approved $174.3 million to acquire open space for preservation.  The Coalition played a major role in the passage of the bonds as an active member of the Friends of the Sonoran Desert, who spearheaded the campaign to pass the Open Space Bonds.

The County has been moving rapidly on acquisitions making significant purchases of land.  A Conservation Acquisition Commission (CAC) was established with the passage of the bonds.  The CAC is comprised of citizen volunteers who oversee the acquision process.  More information on the CAC can be found at: http://www.bonds.pima.gov/commissionCAC/CACcommission.htm
